I am very confused... as it seems the rest of the world is with the platty daddy, at least that's what i've gathered from my online searches thus far.
let me get this straight...
platinum x normal = lesser
but platinum ISN'T the super of the lesser, it's a blue eyed lucy?
does this not really make complete sense to anyone, or am i just being silly

the gene that produces the platty has nothing to with the super form of the lesser.... the way to make a platty is to breed a platty to a platty sib OR a lesser to a platty sib. the gene also works on butters and we are hoping to find out if it works on mojos too.
when you breed a platty to a normal you get normals ( sibs containing hidden gene) and lessers
the lessers are just that and do not contain the hidden gene to produce plattys ( if they did they would already be plattys)

i thought about it more and i think i understand - pretty much once you breed a platty to anything you lose the hidden gene and it hasn't been found to resurface in any of the future generations, and a platty without this hidden gene is a lesser...? so the answer to my question about platty x lesser would be lucys can come out of this because the lesser genes are in the platty so some of the offspring would be like doing lesser x lesser?
genetics really amaze me.
thanks for helping, nick.

sorry didnt see your second post.
yes you could get lucys from a platty to a lesser.
if you breed a platty to ANYTHING the resulting hatchlings that are not mixed with the lesser ( or just a lesser) are het for hidden gene

no worries
it (sort of) makes sense now.
so the hidden gene is there, it just doesn't resurface (in the phenotype) in any of the platty x non-platty's descendants (at least from what has been seen so far)?
sorry for asking so many questions - i thought i had genetics down pretty well and then i read about this and couldn't really find much about it and it blew my mind.
