OK, is cypress mulch from the garden center the same as the one from the pet store (which I am sure it is) and can it be used safely for the BP's or does it have to be one of the $25 bags from the pet store ?
Does it need to be treated with a special substance or can it be baked in the oven to kill mites and ticks ? If yes, at what temp and how long ?

And last but not least: Do you mist the mulch with water to keep the humidity up ? How often do you normally change the mulch ?

Thanks

Ulf

I have no experience with this personally so I'll point you to a thread where a member mentions:

As well if you're ever gonna put driftwood in, throw it in the oven at 250 for an hour or so to kill anything.

Make sure you turn the oven off and let it cool before you take it out because I've read people opening it while the wood is hot and causing a flash-fire type of thing.

OK, so where do you guys get the P.A.M. (provent-a-mite) from ? I hav tried different pet stores, and they don't even know what I am talking about (which doesn't surprise me).

Thanks

Ulf

See alot of pros and cons to using regular lice bedding spray, which some say is the same as provent a mite.
Any thoughts on this, 5 bucks a can VS 18 a can.
I'd just like some newer input on this, I have provent a mite, but see others using, and have heard of large breeders using RID spray too, makes me go hmmm..

You can use Rid - it is effective, and safe when used as directed (I included that disclaimer just for you, Deb Very Happy )
You can also use Equate Bedding Spray, found at Walmart for about $4/can. That's what I use on all new arrivals, on anything that I've had at shows...and the occasional outbreak (*usually because I failed to be be proactive, but there are those 2 snakes that seem to make their own).

There are also products specifically for reptile mites (PAM and BK2), and other generic products for small creepy crawlies (Rid, Nix, etc.)
(**it is pretty easy to find dilution + use instructions for the Nix shampoo. When prepared properly, it can be used directly on the animal, which many of the other products cannot)
