I've been in the process of switching out racks, waiting to move cages, shift animals, etc - just waiting for some CB75 racks to show up to finish.
I was supposed to pick them up last month, but something came up (not on my end). Now, I get word that there is a problem with the racks...he has them, but they don't assemble correctly. Like I have time to shop around again. I'll probably just say Screw It!!, and order a rack with a combination of 8018 + 8514 levels from ARS. Its a lot more money, but I would have it next week...and things have been on hold for too long as it is. I need to get this work done.
(The cheap side of me has won a temporary injunction, and I am going to see how well I can make do with the racks and cages I currently have. I suspect that I will still need something, but I can probably put off spending serious dollars for another year. I'll know by Wed)

I was lucky enough to have my racks show up yesterday (from RB) and spent the night switching animals, cleaning racks and setting up the new racks on my Johnsons (I didn't get done till after just before 1 a.m. ).
I twisted a muscle in my back and broke a toe, but the end score was
Deb - 1
Failure - 0
Nothing beats having your racks come when expected so that you can do what you planned and don't have a "back log" of work piling up because of unscheduled events that interfer with the plans.

The problem is not with the person I ordered from - as it turns out, another person/company makes the racks for him (no details, other than it was a growing, popular rack company - this is not the place to name names). Fortunately, for me, the person I ordered from got a complaint from another customer about the racks not fitting together properly...this led him to attempt to assemble mine - none of them could be put together. Needless to say, the rack maker has pretty much disappeared. The person I ordered from was upfront about the situation, very apologetic, and has offered a full refund (even offered applicable interest, since I paid over the phone via credit card) or to try to get the racks manufactured elsewhere.
I've reviewed the animal situation, and could almost get away with the racks and caging I have, once I move things...but some animals would not have the space I feel they need/deserve. I would also not be able to move animals from my quarantine rack into permanent caging or retire a rack I REALLY want to disassemble. My suspicion is that going with this other company would cost at least $500 more...and house fewer animals. Going with the combined ARS unit, I would end up with a fantastic setup that would house 4 more animals...and cost about $1500 more. The only other manufacturer that I am aware of with a comparable product is Freedom Breeder.

Kinda going through some of these pains also, going to check on a custom built rack, 15 tub built like freedom racks(so they say) lol.
I've seen em apart, looking good, but can't wait to see the rack together.
Nervous about whether they can get this done shortly, have a big order coming soon as it's ready....

Well, I hemmed and hawed, tossed around a variety of options, considered my (animals') needs, as well as finances....and decided on the 7 high Vision boa rack. It was a tough call, because I dislike my 1754/1756 racks; but I am reasonably happy with my hatchling rack, so I decided to go for it. Called the local Vision guy - he told me he had one in stock, and to just let him know when I wanted to pick it up (his warehouse is 15-20 minutes away from my house). I left a message about doing that, and he sent me an email - wanting to make sure I wanted it, as he only had one in stock & another customer wanting it. Then, he dropped the bomb - it's only a 6 high.
He doesn't stock the 7s, but he can get them for me....only take a week or so (except Daytona is next weekend, and Vision puts everything on hold before the show - at least they did last year, and a few customers I know got pretty irritated)
So, while I appreciate that he let me know BEFORE I got there, it still throws me back in the same boat. I know I can get one from another Vision person, but it would cost more and I would have to wait (and for something that was a compromise anyway, I'm not willing to do either unless I absolutely have to).
I fired off an email to Brian Hahn, to find out how much shipping would be on the combination rack I want, and how soon he can get it to me. Its a bank buster; but I'm tired of screwing around, and this is what I really want...even if it doesn't match anything else here. I guess I could spray paint it, lol.
Much as I hate phones, I'll probably break down and call him this afternoon (maybe he can get it out tomorrow )

Wow, I got tired and frustrated just reading your post!! After all this effort, I hope you let us see the finished product of your racks laid out with the snakes in them.

You know better...sometimes, I think you just want me to prove (to somebody) that I actually have snakes, lol.
Anyway, I heard back from Brian yesterday...it will cost $3139.82, including residential freight delivery, for that rack. (I told you it was a wallet buster.) Of course, that would conflict with my efforts to get my debts paid off - but I want it. IF I am going to keep what I have, I can even justify it...BUT, if I cut back the way I keep saying I want to, I can't. The little voice inside my head says that I should need another baby rack next year, and that I can make do with what I have for now...or, get away with the 7 high Vision.
The only thing I know for sure is that I want to get this place put back together. I've got my snake room mostly empty (in preparation of moving the racks that aren't here in), and my AP racks all over the damn place. There's melamine stacked against walls, from when I disassembled the monster racks (my knee wasn't up to what it would have taken to get it all into the basement - these are BIG pieces of melamine). I've been working on & off tonite, in between feeding, on restoring order. I'm actually looking forward to being able to vacuum, lol.

It healed and you know how when you have an adrenaline rush and don't feel it till after you are done with everything..that's how it was. A hot bath and Tynenol p.m put everything to rights. (and a couple of brews)

You know better, I can see your snakes whenever I want. I know where to find the pics. (ergo, if your conjecture were true, all I would need to do is direct them to the location).
I know what you mean..you are going to feel Soooooo much better when this task is done and you can put it behind you.
(vacuuming is the smallest task that you will have to do! )
